Additional Details

The Grove & Rufford Hunt invite members of The Pony Club and their families to visit the Grove & Rufford hunt kennels.

Following an introduction by Mr Gerrad Farmer, MFH, the morning will begin with a guided tour of the kennels led by the Huntsman, Mr Thomas Haddock, who will describe his working day and explain how the hounds are cared for at home, on exercise and at work on a trail hunting day. There will be a break for refreshments before a show of hounds and a trail hunting demonstration. This is a special opportunity to see hounds up close and one that offers a unique insight into the judging of hounds, their ideal confirmation, and physical attributes.

There will be plenty of time to chat informally and ask questions before finishing at 1pm.

For members wishing to take their Pony Club trail hunting certificate the aim of the visit is to cover a section of the theory requirement, however all members interested in trail hunting are welcome and the planned programme is one that all family members will enjoy. For those who already hold their Pony Club trail hunting certificate it will be a chance to refresh and enjoy again a unique opportunity.

Full details of the theory requirements of the Hunting Certificate will be available in the form of a working booklet that has been designed for you to fill in and that once completed will enable the theory part of your certificate to be signed off. The booklet will be emailed to all members booked on the programme ahead of the kennel visit so that questions can be prepared in advance.

Members work towards reaching their certificate in three sessions, theory, practical and one morning hunting unaccompanied (ie off the lead rein) and receive a beautiful enamel pin upon passing all criteria.

(The next ridden practical will take place in 2025.)
