Easton Harriers – Rally Rules

When you attend a rally, we want you to have fun, make friends, enjoy your pony and learn something new!

Our members also need to remember that they are representing our pony club and need to be courteous and respectful at all times. So that everyone is aware of what is expected of them, we have listed some rules below:

All rallies need to be booked in advance. You will then be contacted by the rally organiser a couple of days before to confirm your time and any other rally specific details including meeting point for rally briefing. Please be aware all our organisers are volunteers so may not reply to queries immediately but will respond in good time.

Arrive at a rally in plenty of time to get yourself and your pony ready. Please go to the first session, unmounted, and wait on the centre line for your coach for a rally briefing and tack check. If you are late, it is polite to apologise to your coach.

Please note the child and pony remain the responsibility of the attending parent/guardian at all times. For children E Test and below, please ensure a responsible adult remains in attendance and ready to help if the coach asks. Please resist any urge to coach your own child, or others; this remains the exclusive role of the coach. For all children, an adult must remain at the venue for the duration of the rally.

All ponies must be healthy, clean and tidy. If a coach deems a pony unsafe for the child or the lesson, they have the right to adjust groups or remove the pony from the rally.

Tack must be well fitted, safe and clean. Coach or Committee member have the right to prevent riding if tack is considered unsafe or ill-fitting. Remember to check your stirrup irons, there should be 7mm clearance either side of your boots.

Please refer to the Pony Club Manual or a professional if unsure.

New clothing is not expected, but what is worn must be clean, neat and tidy.

 Jodhpurs/breeches clean and tidy and any colour, no jeans please

 Hats must be to the current standards and must be tagged (new members will have their hat inspected and tagged at their first rally). EHPC silks, black or navy. No fixed peak for XC riding

 Body protectors to the current standards must be worn for jumping and highly recommended for all mounted work

 Spurs only for C+ or if passed Spurs test. Please ensure you have a yellow hat tag.

 EHPC sweatshirt or skins

 Short boots and chaps or long riding boots

 Long hair should be Ɵed up neatly with a hairnet

 Black, brown or navy gloves

 No jewellery! (Exception: in the event of a person being unable to remove permanent jewellery, it must be adequately protected by being covered by a sticky plaster or another appropriate material)

 No hooded clothing

When unmounted, please ensure stirrups are either crossed or run up at all times.

At the end of the rally, it is polite to thank your coach before leaving the arena.

Do not leave ponies tied up and unattended on outside of lorries/trailers. Please ensure all droppings are collected from the arena and car park before you leave and do not tie hay nets on the outside of lorries/trailers.
