Come and find out more about Pony Racing, you do not need a Racing Pony, or a very fast pony, this is all about finding out what goes on.
Unmounted Sessions:
- Balance and fitness
- Equisisor – how to hold the reins, ride shorter
Mounted Sessions:
- Riding – putting into practice what you learned in the unmounted session
- A ride on the gallops
We will be doing work towards the Pony Racing Badge, also The Rider Fitness and Rider Nutrition Badges. Numbers are strictly limited and will be on a first come basis, with a waiting list.
Are you planning on coming Pony Racing at Bangor-on-Dee in September? This is ideal preparation.
The Good News :- This rally is free, with just the Horse-Events booking fee to pay. The rally costs are being met by the funding that The Racing Foundation gives to Pony Racing.
I am expecting the rally to last three to four hours, and a parent/guardian must be present for each participant.
Ideally the participants will be aged between 9yrs and 15yrs As this is a rally, we ask that you wear a up to date skull cap, and a 2018 body protector, and if you are not wearing a running martingale then a neck strap. All tack must be in serviceable condition. I am hoping that we will have a bit of summer by then, but ask that correct riding wear is worn, preferably long sleeved top. When on the equisisor you must wear your body protector and hat, for the rest of the unmounted session, trainers can be worn.
Until I have final numbers I cannot give timings, but would like to start 10am, and all will do the unmounted session first, then ride in groups practising what you did on the equisisor, and if you feel you would like to go onto the gallops then that will follow.
We all want you to enjoy the experience, and have some fun along the way. You will also be given the chance to start your Racing Rally badge, also rider fitness and rider nutrition. We will also discuss the feeding of a racing pony.
We have two ex jockeys who are also racing coaches for the day and a PE instructor, all are Pony Club coaches on Pelham.
