The Competition

The Competition

An encouraging and low-key event designed for genuine novice riders.  There will be additional support and advice from our team of officials.

Championship Classes – The 50cms, 60cms and 70cms Championship Classes are for Pony Club Members who have pre-qualified, from Area 12 only.  District Commissioners are responsible for ensuring that all their competitors meet the eligibility criteria below.

Open (Non-Championship) Classes – 40cms, 50cms, 60cms and 70cms are open to everyone – both Pony Club and non-Pony Club members and including adults.

Our aim is for all riders to have a positive and happy experience.  Rules will follow those as set down in the Pony Club Eventing Rules 2021 http://www.pcuk.org/officials/rulebooks/ with the following exceptions:

  • Judges uphold the right to eliminate any rider that they feel is unsafe at any time during the competition.
  • Championship Classes – all heights. No assistance to be given in any of the phases.
  • Open Classes – 40cms and 50cms. Competitors may be led.  Lead reins may be attached only to the noseband or coupling.  Dressage tests may be commanded.
  • Open Class – 60 cms. Competitors may have verbal assistance only in the Show Jumping and Cross Country phases.  Any other assistance such as chasing or leading will result in penalties.  Dressage tests may be commanded.
  • Open Class – 70cms. No assistance may be given.
  • All riders who receive outside assistance other than that stated above, will be penalised by 10 penalties on each occasion.

Heights – The Show Jump courses will be built to the height of each class and for the 40cms and 50cms will be single fences only.  The 60cms class will include one double and the 70cms will be a little more complex, designed as a stepping stone towards the Pony Club Regional courses.
