HOLWELL LAWN – OPEN SCHOOLING
We are opening our cross country course for Open Schooling
Come and enjoy our main course with its jumps ranging from 60 cm to 1m, including a water jump, and a mini- course with jumps mainly below 50 cm in height.
Time slots are detailed on the booking form, with no more than 12 riders/horses in each time slot.

The following classes are available for the HOLWELL LAWN – 8th May OPEN SCHOOLING
Entries & Entry Fees
All entires via Horse Events
Pony Club Members – £12 per 1.5 hour session per horse
All non-members and adults – £17 per 1.5 hours per horse
There is a separate mini-course, of fences all under 50cm, at the far north end of the site.
The main course offers fences of different heights. At each site there will usually be options of 60cm, 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and some 1m.
All heights are approximate.
Many can be jumped in either direction and are marked with red
and white discs. Jumps must be jumped with the red disc on the right hand side.
If a jump is ‘taped off’ or fenced off this means it must not be jumped. Under no circumstances must the tape be removed.
Times: 9:00 -10.30am, 10.30 – 12 noon, 12 – 13.30, 13.30 – 15:00, 15:00 – 16.30
Withdrawals & Refunds
No refunds after the closing date without a doctors or vets certificate refunds less booking fee
Cancellation Policy: All entries will be refunded less an admin fee should the event have to be cancelled due to bad weather or any other reason.
All subject to a non refundable booking fee
Covid 19 Measures
It is absolutely imperative that every person visiting Holwell Lawn adheres to the social distancing requirements as per the government guidelines which can be found at www.gov.uk/ coronavirus.
No person shall participate (or accompany any participant) if they (or anyone from their household or with whom they have had close contact) has symptoms of coronavirus.
No more than one person shall accompany each rider to the site. If an additional person is required to drive trailer/lorry then they should stay in the vehicle at all times.
All vehicles must be parked 7–10m apart
Groups on the course must not in any circumstances exceed six people including riders, instructors and those leading or assisting ponies. Accompanying individuals on foot must stay at a significant distance from riding groups and must not be in groups of more than six.
Ride within your horse’s and your own capability. Respect the NHS.

- I have read the Terms and Conditions for the Open Schooling and agree to abide by them. I confirm I comply with the rules regarding riding hats, footwear and body protectors.
- I confirm that I hold public liability insurance
I confirm that by making payment I agree to the Terms and Conditions for the Open Schooling, and if the Rider is under 18 a parent, coach or person over 21 takes responsibility for the Rider and Horse/Pony using the Cross Country course.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR SCHOOLING ON THE CROSS COUNTRY COURSE AT HOLWELL LAWN, WIDECOMBE TQ13 9XG

All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. There may be lambs and ewes grazing.
You use the facilities at your own risk and the South Devon Moorland Pony Club cannot accept liability for any loss or damage in respect of you, your horse, your vehicle, equipment, personal valuables or property.
It is an express condition of every person entering the cross country course that he/she agrees (and if he/she is under 18 years of age, his/her parents and or accompanying adult also agrees) that he/she does so at his/her own risk and voluntarily accepts the risk of injury or damage that is implicit in riding/ jumping a horse/pony. No First Aid facilities are available and it is advisable that you wear a medical armband. Mobile signal is poor.
All riders under 18yrs must be accompanied by a person over 21yrs
All must wear a properly fitting jockey skull cap without a fixed peak. All hats must bear the following numbers PAS 015:1998 or 2011* with BSI Kitemark or Snell E2001* with the official Snell label and number, and all must wear proper riding footwear (no muckers or wellington boots).
All must wear a body protector. Pony Club members must wear a 2009 Beta Level 3 Body Protector. Non-members must wear a body protector to current British Eventing standard. (currently BETA Level 3 body protectors labelled 2000)
Prior to use, all persons must familiarise themselves with any fences they intend to jump and take into account the ability of themselves and their horse/pony. There are sheep that graze at Holwell Lawn so ensure there are none in the vicinity of the fence you intend to jump.
You must not school alone.
Riders are not permitted to spend more than the 1.5 hours time slot booked on the XC course
Any fences that are damaged (or seen to be damaged) must be reported promptly so it can be repaired or taken out.
All accidents must be reported to the Officials on site and an accident report completed.
No horses to be left tied to a vehicle unattended
Holwell Lawn is open to walkers and dogs who may not know what to do around horses. There are warning signs up for walkers, but please be polite if they are in your way and we are sure they will move as promptly as possible.
If you need to overtake others schooling, please alert them and ask politely. Galloping past a nervous horse & rider can cause an accident. There will be riders of various standards on the course & there should be room for all of you.
