The perfect opportunity to put your cross country skills to the test! This is a non-competitive event which will ran over the Atherstone Hunt Team Chase Novice course, with a few optional Intermediate fences. It will be run over a course of approximately 20 fences, height approximately 2ft 9in


How it will work

Each rider or team will be given an individual time slot. Numbers and times will be issued 48 hours before the event. The course will be available for walking from Saturday 2pm, and can be done in small groups of a maximum of up to 4 people, as per the guidance from British Team Chasing.

This is not a schooling round – you need to progress through the course at a reasonable pace (canter). After three refusals at one fence, you must move on to the next fence.

You may do the clear round as an individual or as a team of a maximum of up to 6 riders.

Withdrawals & Cancellations

  • In the event of any further national or local lockdown, you will receive a 75% refund. If you withdraw for any other reason, then you will only be refunded if we can fill your time slot.
  • The Atherstone Hunt reserve the right to cancel the event at any time due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation, payments of a 75% refund will be refunded within 7 days of the cancellation.

Rules and Forma

Rules and Forma

  • Please read and adhere to the “How to keep safe during clear round cross country”. This event is not for schooling.
  • Fences will be numbered and you must jump then in sequential order.
  • Riders will start at approximately 5 minute intervals, or once the previous rider(s) have passed a specific marker point.
  • You may miss out any fence. No more than 3 refusals at any fence/group of fences and you must move on.
  • Riders must progress at a reasonable speed (canter)
  • Horses may go round the course no more than twice in total.
  • Slower riders/teams must give way to those overtaking. Fast riders must slow down if requested.
  • Each rider/team will be given an individual time.

What to wear

  • Appropriate competition wear must be worn
  • You must wear an up to standard Hat (as per British Eventing and British Team Chasing Rules). Hats will be identified by a BTC, BE, BRC, or Pony Club approved Hat Tag. I.e. Hats must meet one of the following

Standards: British All PAS015 1998/2011 with kitemark; VG1 with kitemark; All ASTM F1163: 2004 onwards with SEI mark; SNELL

E2001 or E2016 with Snell label and number, or Australian and New Zealand All AS/NZS 3838 2006-onwards hats.

  • You must wear an up to standard Body Protector and if an air jacket is worn, this must be worn over a standard body protector (as per British Eventing and British Team Chasing Rules). All competitors must also wear a British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA 2009) approved and appropriately labelled Level 3 (purple label) body protector, manufactured in the year 2009 or after. A body protector of this nature is also required when competitors are wearing air jackets of any make.
  • Spot checks for hats and back protectors will be done in the collecting ring, by the collecting ring steward
  • You will to provide your own number bib and print off your own number to be worn during the round. Each rider must wear a numbered bib.

How to keep safe during clear round cross country

Please note that these guidelines may change if Government advice alters prior to the clear round cross country date. Any updates will be posted on the Atherstone Hunt Team Chase facebook page. In order to comply with Government and Sporting Governing Body advice, and to keep our competitors and volunteers safe, the following points must be strictly adhered to at all times.

Prior to Arrival:

  • All entries and payment will be online; there will be NO entries on the day
  • Check your times as each competitor/team will be assigned a start time 48 hours before the event. Please print off the numbers for your bib; three copies will be required as per the guidance from British Team Chasing (2 for the number bib and one as a means of identification as they first enter the site).
  • Call and withdraw if anyone within your household or social bubble is feeling unwell or has been contact with anyone displaying signs of COVID-19.
  • As a general principal is that the event should only be attended by competitors, with one additional helper per competitor.
  • Please ensure that your horse’s vaccinations are update; spot checks will be performed in the lorry park so please have the horse’s passport readily available.
  • Spectators will not be allowed this year. The following people are allowed on site per horse; the rider (x1), groom (x1), support person (x1). If the rider is under 18 years old, a parent/guardian is permitted in addition. Any other person exceeding the criteria above will been deemed as a spectator and as such will not be permitted on site.
  • Only members of the same household should travel in the same vehicle to the event.

Upon Arrival:

  • Parking: leave at least 5m between vehicles
  • Sanitise hands
  • Social distancing: please follow the government guidelines for social distancing as these must be adhered to at all times

At the Event:

  • Warming up: a larger warm up area will be available in a field adjacent to the start box. A maximum number of 6 of horses will allowed in the area at one time. Riders must stay a safe 2m distance away from each other.
  • At the start: our starter will call you when it is your time. Please ensure that you and any helpers if present respect a 2m distance from the starter. You must be ready to start at your allocated start time, otherwise you may not be allowed run.
  • At the finish: Rosettes will be awarded at this event; these will be available in a designated area. Please adhere to the guidance on the displayed signs.
  • A private paramedic service will be present and the paramedics will be using appropriate PPE.
  • Please answer all of their questions honestly and treat our paramedics with respect.
  • No helpers will be allowed in the vicinity.
  • Please note that there will be toilet facilities at this event.
  • Please note that there will be a paramedic present at this event, but there will be no veterinary surgeon, doctor or blacksmith present.


The organisers and the landowners do not accept liability for any accident, damage, injury or illness to horses, owners, grooms, spectators or any person or property whatever on the ground. All vehicles are parked at the owner’s risk. No responsibility can be accepted for damage to or loss from those vehicles moving or parking on the premises.

The organisers reserve the right to ask any person whom is not adhering to the rules of the event to leave the event.

By entering you confirm the following statement “I confirm that I/we have third party insurance cover for not less than £5m and agree to abide by the rules in this schedule.“

By entering you are also agreeing to follow the Atherstone Team Chase and Government guidance outlined and will take full responsibility that any persons competing or present on-site are fully aware of this and comply.
